Children and Divorce

Picture
Divorce is a painful time for the entire family. And as tough as divorce is on parents, it can be even harder on the children. Children are often caught in the middle of their parents' separation and with all of the legal and emotional issues you have to face, it's easy to overlook your children's needs.

Because divorce has proven to be so stressful for children, the District Court Judge of Brown County requires parents to attend a 4 hour seminar designed to help minimize the negative impact of divorce on children. It is broken up into two - 2 hour sessions. The first session is held on the last Tuesday of every month at 5:45 p.m. and the second session is the next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (the first Tuesday).

During the second session, children can participate in groups just for them. They will learn how to better cope with the situation and how to communicate their feelings with parents.

Child care is provided.

'I had no idea what I was putting my children through! It was so hard on me that I couldn't even see what I was doing to them. I can put my anger aside so that my children can be happy. I'm so glad that the judge gave me the opportunity to talk with other parents and the group leader about the effects of divorce on the kids and how I can help them through it.'
